Ideally based in Shanghai | Paid per article | Flexible, autonomous role

We’re building a new Shanghai lifestyle and expat directory and are looking for a reliable freelance editor/content writer to help turn drafts into polished, engaging, and locally relevant articles.

This is a remote role, though we’d ideally like someone based in Shanghai who understands the city, its neighbourhoods, dining scene, expat life, and local practicalities.

Paid per piece/article, with pay negotiable depending on experience and the level of editing required.

-Write and edit articles for clarity, tone, accuracy, and flow.
-Add local insight, practical detail, and a human touch.
-Check facts, names, locations, and general accuracy where needed.
-Help maintain a consistent style across the site.
-Work with a high degree of autonomy and minimal supervision.
- You must be familiar with Shanghai in some way - this could be restaurants, cafes, businesses, things to do, or other things of a similar nature

-Strong written English.
-Good attention to detail.
-Ideally based in Shanghai, or at least very familiar with the city.
-Comfortable editing and ideally writing from scratch.
-Able to work independently and manage your own time.

-Fully remote work.

We’re a new start-up project focused on building a useful, high-quality online directory for people living in or visiting Shanghai. The role is best suited to someone who enjoys working independently, has good editorial instincts, and wants to be part of an early-stage project with room to develop.
