Project Accountant

Addison Group is representing a well-established construction services firm with a reputation for delivering high-quality projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Project Accountant to join their accounting team.

Position Summary

The Project Accountant will work closely with Project Managers, Operations, and the Accounting team to support the financial management of multiple construction projects from inception through closeout. This role is responsible for project cost tracking, billings, contract administration, and financial reporting while helping ensure projects remain financially accurate and on track.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day accounting activities for multiple construction projects.
  • Prepare monthly project cost reports and assist with Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules.
  • Monitor project budgets, costs, billings, and revenue recognition.
  • Partner with Project Managers to review project financial performance, change orders, and job cost reporting.
  • Process owner billings, subcontractor invoices, and pay applications.
  • Maintain project contracts, purchase orders, subcontract agreements, and change order documentation.
  • Reconcile project accounts and investigate billing or cost discrepancies.
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and project reporting.
  • Track committed costs, retainage, and contract balances.
  • Support external audits by providing project-related financial documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiency.
  • Assist with special accounting projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ of accounting experience, preferably within construction or project-based accounting.
  • Understanding of:
    • Job cost accounting
    • Construction billing
    • Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting
    • Revenue recognition
  • Experience working with ERP systems such as Vista, CMiC, Sage 300 CRE, Foundation, Viewpoint, or similar is preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills including PivotTables, XLOOKUP, and VLOOKUP.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with project teams.

Preferred Experience

  • Construction, specialty contractor, engineering, infrastructure, or commercial services experience.
  • Experience supporting multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with:
    • AIA billing
    • Lien waivers
    • Retainage accounting
    • Subcontract administration
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary: $80,000 - $85,000, depending on experience, plus discretionary bonus.

Work Environment

  • First 90 days: 100% in-office for onboarding and training.
