Under the general direction of a Technical Resource Supervisor (Administrator II), the incumbent is responsible for reviewing highly sensitive, complex, and significant audit cases for Corporate and/or Pass-Through-Entity taxpayers. The incumbent assists in the development of complex technical Tax Audit practices and procedures in areas where little to no legal precedence exists, where the potential for litigation is high, and where leadership and coordination is required. The incumbent will work well with people, work independently, handle multiple assignments, and adapt to changing priorities.

Working Conditions

Visa Sponsorship

This position is eligible for limited remote working based on departmental guidelines and operational need. FTB has a minimum in-office requirement of four days per week for all positions including those that are eligible for telework. This is subject to change.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Strong working knowledge of the Corporate, and/or Pass-Through-Entity tax law, regulations, policies, and procedures
• Ability to interpret and apply tax laws to the facts and circumstances of audit cases, including cases with complex ownership structures
• Ability to resolve the most technical questions and issues where little legal precedence exists
• Ability to creatively develop alternatives and recommend innovative solutions using strong analytical and research skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well independently or in a team environment on various projects and special assignments
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including the most complex legislative or technical tax information in a clear and concise manner
• Ability to mentor others in a positive manner to promote quality and sustainability
• Ability to independently plan, prioritize, and organize assignments with tight time frames or competing deadlines
• Ability to prepare, review, or present technical training and procedures in an engaging and understandable manner
• Ability to lead statewide programs, practices and procedural issues to ensure departmental strategic goals, and directives are accomplished
• Ability to develop and implement legislative changes on highly controversial issues
• Knowledge of Case Management (CM), Taxpayer Folder (TPF), Business Entities Tax System (BETS), and Taxpayer Information (TI), or other similar systems
